Absorption

In accounting, absorption means the process of charging or allocating overhead costs to products or services.

It is commonly used in absorption costing, where both:

Direct costs (materials, labour), and

Indirect costs (factory overheads)

are included in the total cost of a product.

In simple terms, absorption means including a share of indirect expenses as part of the product cost.
